Five Reasons to Have a Photoshoot Just for You

There are heaps of reasons why people book professional photoshoots: from building portfolios, getting professional headshots for LinkedIn to product shots for business, capturing an event or when the family is all together.

I think everyone should experience doing a photoshoot just for them at least once in their life, and here’s some reasons why.

1.It will make you feel good

I guarantee that having a photoshoot that is all about you, will make you feel good. It’s a bit like a day of pampering. Take a break from the humdrum of everyday life, dress up and feel special. Literally stepping into the spotlight.

2.It will help you in developing your brand / discovering who you are

You’ve probably heard the saying “A picture says a thousand words”, I don’t know if that’s necessarily true but a picture does communicate something. Is what you’re wearing or how you’re posing communicating something about you or what you want to say to your viewers? Is it fun? Is it serious? Is it interesting or quirky? Is it mysterious or cute? Do you look like a boss or a queen? Or both? Before and throughout the shoot, making these decisions is a fun experience, will push you to try new things and you’ll discover new things about yourself.

3.Celebrate a milestone

If you really want an excuse to invest in yourself, then why not make it coincide with an important birthday? Or it could coincide with finishing study, getting a new job, moving cities, or fulfilling a fitness goal.

4.It will help you build confidence.

I’ve heard it many times from once hesitant clients that they didn’t know how to pose or they thought that they would be awkward or non-photogenic but with some quick direction, and guidance on posing it’s incredible to see people’s confidence come through within the first few moments of a shoot. And when the final photos arrive, clients are shocked at how good they look. I think everyone can can look great in a photo and it’s my job to make that happen.

5.Because time does not stand still

Luckily it does stand still long enough to take some beautiful photographs. But as you know, time just keeps marching on. There is no need to wait until a certain age or certain time. The time is now. You are beautiful enough. You are young enough. You are old enough. Celebrate who you are now, not who you think you will be in the future when “x, y or z” has happened. Existing in photographs starts now. Time will not wait. Life will just keep moving and before you know it, you will wish you had done this five years ago.
